Shalyn's Soccer Season

Shalyn has become quite the soccer player! She really enjoyed playing soccer this season and improved her techniques. Grammy, Papa Jack, and Grant came to watch her score a few goals. Her favorite parts of the season were wearing the yellow "practice jerseys," and getting her trophy.

Halloween "Literary Characters"

At my school, students are invited to dress up as Literary Characters (book characters). Shalyn was a scientist. Hector was the peddler from the book,Caps for Sale. I was Camilla from the book, A Bad Case of Stripes. (I wasn't sure that the make-up was going to come off after the first application that stained my fingers drastically...but it all came off. The kids always have a great time at the school carnival seeing everyone dressed up and playing games at the different booths!

Marissa's "Shape Party!"

Marissa had a "shape party" at school to celebrate the end of their unit on shapes. Families were invited to come and have a "shape" dinner with the kids. Marissa's teacher brought triangle pizza. We brought circle peas, square carrots, and circle cookies. Other parents brough rectangle gogurts and jello jigglers cut out in heart and star shapes. The kids had a great time and loved being able to show off their "shape skills."

A visit from the Tooth Fairy!

Shalyn had a wiggly tooth for quite a while now and finally on Thursday her she wiggled her tooth so much at school that it fell out! She was so excited and proud! The tooth fairy left her a special little note and left an interesting coin. We had to look up the coin to see where it was from. We found out that it is a Kroner from Denmark! We had never seen a silver coin with a hole in it before. What an exciting memory!!

Shalyn had a Super 6 Birthday! She had a sports themed birthday and the kids got to participate in lots of different sports centers. Shalyn's 1st Day of Kindergarten!

Shalyn 's first day of Kindergarten was "SUPER!" Hector took her to school, she was greeted by "superheroes," she saw Evyn and Kallyn in the same day! She has two AWESOME teachers, which she LOVES!! Hector made her an "Incredible" Kindergartener ID Badge, and also "Proud Mom of a Kindergartener and Proud Dad of a Kindergartener" ID Badges for us to wear. I think we all were so excited to wear them! The day could not have been any better!

We had an awesome summer, filled with so many activities, trips, and events, even WE couldn't keep up. Although we always get a little sad about the summer coming to an end, this year it wasn't so bad at all because...Shalyn was beginning Kindergarten. Not only was she SO excited, so were we! Of course we were excited about not having a child care payment for her anymore, but more importantly we were excited for her to be beginning a full day of academics and FUN! We threw a "Kickoff to Kindergarten party for her and some of her close friends. The kids had a blast and it was a great way to get ready for school to begin!

Shalyn's shoes!

The other day Shalyn screamed "Mommy, mommy!" so loud in the morning as we were getting ready for school. I thought something was wrong. I ran over to her and she beamed "I tied my shoes all by myself!" We couldn't help but share how proud she is of herself and we are of her and this new skill! We got her new, bright green shoelaces because all of the kids in my class get special shoelaces when they learn how to tie their shoes!!

Life is all about experiencing new things! Michelle and I took Shalyn, Evyn, and Sharon's kids, Nathan and Ashley to Super Motorcross for the first time. We all had a good time, although Michelle and I were trying to figure out the rules of the sport the whole time! Good times, good fun, and the best $5.00 hot chocolate you ever had! Although Shalyn had the super earmuffs, she loved every minute off it, except for the surprise fireworks!!

Shalyn is playing T-Ball now and she's super lucky to have her cousin, Grant on the team and have Daddy and Uncle Glenn help Coach Bill for practices and games. She had her first game this past weekend and she did great! She even got the first game ball for great sportsmanship and good attitude on the ball field. Grammy and Papa Jack came to cheer Shalyn and Grant on. Robin, Tim, Addison, and Trey were down from N.C. and stopped by to see us too. Canyon is quickly following in Shalyn's footsteps by already putting the ball on the tee and hitting it with his plastic bat (all by himself). Looking forward to many more fun memories at the ball park. GO MARLINS!!!

January was so busy with the New Year, our Anniversary trip to Lake Tahoe, SuperBowl, etc. etc. However, we did want to share with everyone that yes...Hector is getting old. He woke up to the most adorable "put a smile on your face" birthday sign that Shalyn worked so hard to make for him. The sign read "Happy Birthday Daddy" and she made sure that it was made of Gator colors because "my daddy likes the Gators." She also had to make a pattern to see if Hector would notice. Here's to another fun, chaotic, crazy, busy, life as we know it year!!! Happy Birthday Hector!

Shalyn's favorite present was her remote control race car but she also got a buzz lightyear and a baseball bat and helmet. This month was the calm before the storm. Shalyn started at her new preschool daycare (Salena/Maya/Ella visited). Haley began her 10th year at Chets Creek (Kindergarten)...The theme this year is symphony/music based and haley's class is called Country Music STARS. Hector had some fun in Tampa & Vegas with his family/friends playing golf and fantasy football. Other than that we went to the beach to take some pictures and enjoyed Jacksonville.

Haley and the kids went on an adventure in Georgia. They visited the Hughes family. Shalyn had a blast with her cousins Madison and Mackenzie. Then they drove to Cleveland GA to visit Haley's middle school girlfriend Michele. Summer has been wonderful for Haley. She has a weekly schedule of places to visit with all her friends. This past week they visited the downtown Library and rode the skyway shuttle around the city. Canyon had his first ride on the cooler
scooter.

What a summer. Haley continues to not waste one day of the summer. We went to a July 4th parade at Michelle, Evyn, and Waynes. Then had some smores and movie time at our house. Hector took the family to UNF's Golf Course. Shalyn did excellent at putting. Haley has one heck of a short game. Canyon turned 10months and Haley gave him a slight trim around his ears. The zoo was extra special this time b/c two new baby jaguars were up close and personal. Canyon had the chance to get on the carousel and it so happens that he picked the gator to ride...hmmm coincidence?

We visited Orlando to celebrate Abuelas 60th and Uncle Erics 30th bday. Haley and the kids visited Jessie in Gainesville. More to come in July.

June "Schools out for summer"

What a month. Haley's school let out and they have stayed busy for the summer. She and her other teacher friends have play days 3 times a week. The zoo, parks, pools, movies, library, sprinklers, tea parties and more. For our family vacation we went to SanDestin , FL with the Till's. We stayed at the Luau and walked to the beach and rode the bus to baytowne wharf. The girls had a blast and Latika really saved us some cash. Thanks Till's.
The highlight of this summer has to be Shalyn's Dentist visit. She loved our dentist and put on some cool glasses that her friend salena gave her. No cavities. Dr. David gave her a blue toothbrush and big girl toothpaste. woohoo.

Hector picked up the nephews for our week of fun. Adventure landing, beach, universal, bowling, and a jax suns baseball game.

May Baptism, Mothers Day, Haley's Bday and Memorial Weekend

Canyon turned 8 months. We decided to have his baptism during Mothers day weekend just as we did with Shalyn. Everyone came into town and we had some fun in the backyard. Haley and some friends went to see the play Wicked then travelled to Amy's house for a baby shower.
Shalyn finished the year at UNF. She performed in a play and then we went to her gymnastics recital. Ms. Holly, Salena, Maya, Ella, and Latika stopped by to see our star performer.
For Haley's birthday we went to Disney World (Free on your bday). Shalyn and mommy went on the TeaCup's, disney princesses, and Dumbo together then daddy took her on the race cars. She loved touring through Minnie and Mickey's house. Its a small world ride takes the cake. She hasn't stopped singing the song and daddy just doesn't know the rest of the words.... go figure.
We headed to Lake Placid for Memorial/Linette's bday. Sue and Eric stayed in FL for 14 days. Shalyn had a chance to stay with them for a weekend. Sue straightened her hair (don't worry its curly again).

Carolyn and Dave Swidorsky joined us in Tampa. Boof, Angel, and Craig rode on the Coors Light Airstream that took us downtown St Pete to see hoobastank then to the hard rock. The next day we toured the city then ended up at RUDY's Sport Pub in Largo FL.
What a great time!
Dave took most of the pictures of rudy's etc I'll try and grab them from the slideshow he built.

So much fun. Family night at the campfire on UNF's campus. Shalyn had a great time listening to stories, melting marshmallows, and cooking her own hotdog on a stick.

What a great New Years for our family! Canyon's 1st plane trip & everyones first time to Pax River Maryland to see Sue & Eric. The entire family visited for the week which included hiking, basketball, crabcakes, gymnastics, & dancing. Brandon did his 1st back handspring & shalyn played basketball with abuela. We climbed aboard a P3 airplane at the base & saw helo's/jets. The last day we visited Baltimore's harbour and camden yards. But nothing topped the look on everyone's face when the snow began to fall.

Canyon 3 Mnths in December

It's been an exciting 3 months with Canyon in our family. He loves it when Shalyn makes him smile and laugh. He has a special Blue Blanket and rubs his face when he gets it. It puts him to sleep. He weighs 13 lbs. and has blue eyes still. Shalyn had blue eyes until 7months then turned brown. We'll see what God has in store for our little Canyon. He is sleeping well at night but starting to cry early in the a.m. Shalyn is a great big sister and loves to help calm him when he cries.

Thanksgiving Weekend in Miami Nov 2008

A 5 hour drive turned to 7 hours just to get to WPB. Ouch. Looking back there wouldn't be a thing that I would change. We had a blast in Miami. Catching up with Haley's family. Playing the Wii, some cards, and even frying a turkey with cousin Massey. Shalyn had a chance to play with the girl cousins. Canyon and Grant will have a hard time being macho in this family. We stopped by the Dukes house and had the best pork chops in the world. Thanks Danny. Kudos to Aunt Joann for the great thanksgiving meal. In my case I should say meals.

We had an exciting month of October.
Haley had a chance to enjoy some time with Canyon during her maternity. She even took care of Bretton for one day. Uncle Eric stopped by the house during his week in Athens GA. Sorry Sue but Eric saw Canyon 1st.

Shalyn and Haley baked cookies for the local Fire station. The firemen let Shalyn tour the garage and climb into the firetruck. They appreciated Shalyn taking the time to visit.

Shalyn dressed as a Penguin, Canyon (bear), Haley (Strawberry Shortcake), & Hector (Handy Manny) for the School Carnival. The kids toured the classrooms and trick or treated inside. Shalyn even went on the train and a super bounce house slide.

On Halloween night we tailgated in front of the house passing out candy. Hector's front yard maze was a hit. Although the grass has yet to recover from the 100's of kids.

It's a Boy! Canyon Jack Alvarado

We are extremely excited about our son Canyon Jack Alvarado...
born Sept 6th, 2008 @ 8:05pm
6lbs. 10ounces and 20inches long

His name means so much to our family and we hope that no one gets the
nerve to call him cj, haha. Canyon is what Shalyn would have been named if she
were a boy. Haley and I went out to visit the beautiful Grand Canyon for our
2nd year anniversary. If you remember we brought back Grand Canyon photos & one picture announced our 1st pregnancy. Jack is Haley's fathers nickname.

Haley went into finally felt her contractions throughout the day and we went into the hospital around 4pm. Next thing you know we had a beautiful baby boy. Yes Meredy, Michelle, Shalyn, & Brian Till you were right. And kudos to Latika for being spot on with the time of delivery.

Summer Time!

Absolutely beautiful weather we have been blessed with this summer.
Shalyn enjoyed the many trips to the beach, movies, zoo, and to see family.
Daddy even got her a mega waterslide.

On a sad note Monte has been placed with his 5 year old brother Juleus. They reside with a sweet lady on the northside of Jacksonville and we even had the chance to see Monte at his 2nd birthday party. Please keep Monte in your thoughts and prayers.

Haley is now 38 weeks into our 2nd pregnancy. She has been go go go since school started back up last week. Fortunately everything is going as planned and we are due on Sept 15th.

Our 5th Year Anniversary Trip

We went to Las Vegas for our 5th Year Anniversary. Haley has never been to Vegas and we made it a point to walk the strip every day we were there. We had the chance to see Cirque De Soleil "O" and Wayne Brady. We stayed at the flamingo across the street from Caesars and Bellagio.

You may see quite a few pictures taken of Elvis. The reason being is that Michelle & Wayne didn't get to see any when they were in vegas (December). I know...Hard to believe.

Haley's favorite part of vegas had to be the shows and my favorite part was playing video poker (Haley and I hit four 4's twice (My Lucky Number) & four 5's once) woohoo!

Monte's 1st week at our home!

He is doing well in our family. We enrolled him in day care
and spend plenty of time taking him to his new favorite place...

We are working on getting Monte to say the words: More, Please, Thank You,
and Up. He picks things up quickly but he is too quick to show his temper as
well. Especially when we say No, No Monte.

Introducing "monte" to our family!

As you know Haley & I are certified Foster Care Parents and completed the licensing to care for any child (we prefer 3yrs and under). We received our first call at 7pm on Thursday Jan 3rd. By 10:30pm Monte showed up at our doorstep and we welcomed him with open arms!

Monte is 16 months and weighs in at 27lbs.(whew!)
He says very few words: Ball, Oh-oh, and dog.
He is terrified of our pet rabbit "nibbles" but loves Shalyn & her toys...
especially bouncey balls and the slide.

Our hope is that we can eventually adopt Monte but for now we are excited to provide the best home & care possible for him. We will keep you posted on new news as it comes in.

December Christmas Day!

We had a fairly relaxing Christmas morning. We decided to stay in town and open presents in the a.m. then spend the afternoon/evening at Haley's Sister Stacy's house. Shalyn loved her Stocking Stuffers but the best present was her roller skates & skateboard. Believe it or not she asked for them.

Having two weeks off for christmas break is quite nice. In order to pass some time we decided to bake some cookies for the family, make smores, and go to the zoo!

December Boat Parade & More

We visited the annual downtown Jacksonville Christmas Boat Parade! Shalyn loved the lit up boats and watched them pass by. She saw Santa, some singing elvis's, boats with plenty of xmas lights and even a submarine (pretend).
She made a present for her friend Bretton and went to her friend Salena's concert.

5th Annual Florida Vs Georgia Tailgate Party

The world's largest outdoor cocktail party held up to its reputation.
Every Year the tailgate seems to get better/bigger but the end result got worse?
Anyway, we all had a great time downtown even though the weather was off & on.

Thanks to all of you who joined us for the 5th Annual FLAGA Tailgate Party....A special shout out to Maria & Tony for all of your help! I owe you one!

2007 Halloween weekend was jammed pack and loads of fun. Thursday Night Shalyn wore a monkey costume for trick or treating but she also wore a pirate outfit during Haley's School parade.

On Saturday Night, Haley and I took Shalyn to her first SPOOKTACULAR at the Jacksonville Zoo. It was full of people and activities. I wore my Gator gear b/c they were playing Kentucky that night. GO GATORS!

Then on Wednesday Night (Halloween Night)...
Sue, Eric, and Uncle Adam came over to see Shalyn. We grilled out on the front driveway and took Shalyn to the neighbors for candy. We had some friends come over as well.

Haley's School Carnival was awesome. They had an inside trick or treat and an outside Carnival. Shalyn loved going on the bouncey's and super slides.
